“Sto Lat: The Life and Times of Stefan Alfons Malicki” – A Special Art Event

On Thursday, September 12, 2013, the Creatures Creating Gallery at 822 Dundas Street West, Toronto, hosted the opening of a very special art show curated by Vanessa Malicki-Sanchez, celebrating the centenary (Sto Lat = 100 years) of the birth of Stefan Alfons Malicki, the founder of the Malicki Sanchez Law Firm, which he established in 1959.

Stefan Malicki, 1913-1996, lived a diverse and colourful life. Once a high court judge in Poland, a paratrooper in Scotland, and later a lawyer in Canada, Stefan discovered his final reinvention as a painter in the last 7 years of his life. Before his death, he completed over 300 paintings and sketches. The events of his life and how he experienced and imagined the world around him came pouring out of him at a feverish pace.

Please watch this beautiful video created by Erick Perdomo, to learn more about this rare and special event in tribute to our founder:

There was no subject matter or painting material that escaped him. He painted on anything he could find, soap and cat food boxes, old Christmas cards and foam cartons. He painted a variety of subject matters ranging from historical and mythological battle scenes, allegories, nudes, landscapes and portraits. The scope of Stefan’s work begins to describe, where words fail, the complexity and eclecticism of his world. Sto Lat was but a glimpse into the life and times of Stefan Alfons Malicki.

The exhibit comprised a selected cross-section of Stefan’s work. We thank all who participated and helped to make the event such a success.
